836 - 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us, saying: My father said: In the hadith of Yazid ibn Zuray' from Shu'bah, he said: 'Amr ibn Murrah informed me, from 'Abd Allah ibn Salamah, who said: We entered upon 'Umar—we, the people of Madh-hij—and I was among those closest to him in seating. 'Umar began to look at al-Ashtar and then turn his gaze away, so he said: "Is he one of you?" I replied: "Yes, O Commander of the Faithful." He said: "What is the matter with him? May Allah fight him! May Allah spare the nation of Muhammad from his evil. By Allah, I truly believe that the people will have a dire day because of him."
٨٣٦ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبِي: فِي حَدِيثِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ زُرَيْعٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: نَبَّأَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: دَخَلْنَا عَلَى عُمَرَ مَعَاشِرَ مَذْحِجٍ، وَكُنْتُ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ مِنْهُ مَجْلِسًا، فَجَعَلَ عُمَرُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى الْأَشْتَرِ وَيَصْرِفُ بَصَرَهُ، فَقَالَ: أَمِنْكُمْ هَذَا؟ قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، قَالَ: مَا لَهُ، قَاتَلَهُ اللَّهُ ⦗٥١٧⦘، كَفَى اللَّهُ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ شَرَّهُ، وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَحْسَبُ أَنَّ لِلنَّاسِ مِنْهُ يَوْمًا عَصِيبًا "
