846 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Matar and Zakariyya ibn Yahya informed me that Abu Talib narrated to them, saying: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah: 'What do you say about one who says: "May Allah curse Yazid ibn Mu'awiya?"' He said: 'I do not speak on this.' I said: 'What do you say? For the one who spoke it is a man who is fine (la ba'sa bihi), and I am leaning toward your position.' Abu 'Abd Allah said: 'The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Cursing a believer is like killing him," and he said: "The best of people are those of my generation, then those who follow them," and Yazid has become one of them. And he [the Prophet] said: "Whoever I have cursed or insulted, make it for him a mercy." Therefore, I consider refraining [from cursing] more beloved to me.'
