847 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Samad al-Muqri' al-Missisi informed me, saying: Ishaq ibn al-Dayf narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn Qutayba narrated to us, saying: al-Rabi' ibn Sulayman narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Hasan say: "Curse the killers of 'Uthman." It was said to him: "Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr killed him." He replied: "Curse the killers of 'Uthman, he was killed by whoever killed him."
848 - Abu Bakr al-Khallal said: Following this which Abu 'Abd Allah mentioned regarding caution against cursing, there are many hadiths which are not hidden from the people of knowledge and those who record hadith, if they are fair in their speech. It has been mentioned from Ibn Sirin and others that they used to say: "{Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers} [Hud: 18]" when someone like al-Hajjaj and his actions were mentioned to them. We follow the people [of the past] and do not differ; we follow what al-Hasan and Ibn Sirin said, for they were the two just imams of their time, the pious, the jurists, and among the most excellent of the Tabi'in, and among those most knowledgeable of the lawful and the prohibited and the affairs of the religion. We do not act ignorantly, but we say: May Allah curse whoever killed al-Husayn ibn 'Ali, may Allah curse whoever killed 'Umar, may Allah curse whoever killed 'Uthman, may Allah curse whoever killed 'Ali, and may Allah curse whoever killed Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan; for all of these were killed. It is said: "The curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers" when a man of the people of sedition (fitan) is mentioned to us, and [we act] according to what Ahmad ibn Hanbal adhered to regarding that. And with Allah is the attainment of success.
