875 - Abu 'Abd Allah ibn Muhammad informed me, saying: Bakr ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from his father, that he asked Abu 'Abd Allah about the Qadari (sectarian who denies divine decree): 'Is he to be asked to repent?' I said: 'Indeed, Malik and 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz held the view that he should be asked to repent; if he repents, [it is accepted], and if not, his neck is to be struck.' He replied: 'I am of the view that he is to be asked to repent if he denies the knowledge of Allah.' I said: 'And how does he deny the knowledge of Allah?' He said: 'If he says this was not in the knowledge of Allah, I ask him to repent; if he repents, [it is accepted], and if not, I would strike his neck.' He [Abu 'Abd Allah] said: 'There are among them those who say: "It was in [His] knowledge, but He did not command you to commit disobedience."'
