1096 - Musa ibn Sahl informed me, saying: Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Asadi narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Sa'id, who said: I asked Ahmad about Islam and Iman (faith), and he replied: "Iman is speech and action, and Islam is the acknowledgment." He said: And I asked Ahmad about the person who spoke regarding what Gabriel said to the Prophet, peace be upon him, when he asked him about Islam, and he said to him: "If I do that, am I a Muslim?" and he replied, "Yes." Then someone said: "So if they do not do what Gabriel said to the Prophet, peace be upon him, are they also Muslims?" He replied: "This person is an opponent of the Hadith."
١٠٩٦ - وَأَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ سَهْلٍ، قَالَ: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْأَسَدِيُّ، قَالَ: ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَحْمَدَ عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ، وَالْإِيمَانِ؟ فَقَالَ: «الْإِيمَانُ قَوْلٌ وَعَمَلٌ، وَالْإِسْلَامُ الْإِقْرَارُ» قَالَ: وَسَأَلْتُ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مَنْ قَالَ فِي الَّذِي قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، إِذْ سَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ , فَقَالَ لَهُ: فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَنَا مُسْلِمٌ؟ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ , فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا الَّذِي قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِنَّهُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ أَيْضًا فَقَالَ: «هَذَا مُعَانِدٌ لِلْحَدِيثِ»
