1777 - Abu Bakr al-Marwudhi informed us, saying: I heard Abu Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] say: "The Jahmiyyah split into three sects: those who said [the Qur'an] is created, those who doubted, and those who said: 'Our pronunciations of the Qur'an are created.' Abu Abd Allah then said: We do not call these [the second group] 'Waqifah' [those who suspend judgment], rather we call them 'Shakkakah' [those who doubt]."
