1798 - Al-Hasan ibn 'Ali ibn 'Umar al-Missisi informed me, saying: Ahmad ibn al-Dawraqi said: I heard Abu al-Nadr say: Ibrahim ibn Shakla summoned us and brought al-Marrisi; he wanted to strike his neck, so he said to us: "What do you say regarding the Qur'an?" He said: So I replied: "The Qur'an is the Speech of Allah, uncreated." He then said: "Why did we not say: 'The Speech of Allah,' and remain silent?" He said: I replied: "Because this enemy of Allah said: 'It is created,' so we found no choice but to say: 'It is uncreated.'"
