Translation · EN

1817 - Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath informed us, saying: I heard Abu 'Abd Allah being asked: "A certain person among the hadith scholars, who has been accused of waqf (abstaining from taking a position on the Quran), has written to you. Should they bring the letter to you?" He replied: "I do not desire a letter from someone like him, if he holds that opinion." It was then said to him: "Perhaps there is something in it [that is beneficial]," so he granted permission for them to bring it to him.

1818 - And I read to al-Hasan ibn 'Abd Allah al-Nu'aymi, from al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan, from Abu Dawud Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath, who said: It was said to Abu 'Abd Allah: "Ibn Abi Samina al-Basri has written to you a letter; should they bring it to you?" And he mentioned this statement.
