1823 - 'Abd Allah b. Ahmad informed us, saying: We mentioned to my father [Ahmad b. Hanbal] a man from the people of al-Basra who used to narrate [hadith]. I said to him: "He is a Waqifi [one who withholds judgment regarding the createdness of the Quran], and the hadith scholars have abandoned him." He said: "May Allah distance him [from His mercy]."
١٨٢٣ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ: ذَكَرْنَا عِنْدَ أَبِي رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ ⦗١٤٦⦘ الْبَصْرَةِ مِمَّنْ كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ، قُلْتُ لَهُ: إِنَّهُ وَاقِفِيٌّ، وَقَدْ تَرَكَهُ أَصْحَابُ الْحَدِيثِ، فَقَالَ: «أَبْعَدَهُ اللَّهُ»
