1549 - He said: Abu Abd Allah narrated to us, saying: Sufyan narrated to us, from Ayyub al-Ta'i, from Qays ibn Muslim, from Tariq ibn Shihab, from Abd Allah, who said: "A man may approach another man who possesses no power to harm or benefit him, nor even himself, and he swears to him saying, 'You did such and such, and such and such,' perhaps hoping to receive something from him, only to return having nothing left of his religion." Then Abd Allah recited: {Have you not seen those who claim themselves to be pure? Rather, Allah purifies whom He wills, and they will not be wronged [even by] a date seed thread. Look how they invent lies about Allah; and sufficient is that as a clear sin} [An-Nisa': 50].
