6 – Biography of Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Azdī

He is: The revered traditionist Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Muslim ibn Ḥāmid Maysara al-Azdī, al-Dimashqī the merchant. He was born in the year 604 AH, and heard from Abū al-Qāsim al-Ḥurastānī, Abū al-Ḥasan al-Azajī, and others. He wrote down high and low chains, traveled to Baghdad, Egypt, and Alexandria, and compiled "al-Muʿjam". He died in the year 666 AH on the 11th of Rabīʿ al-Awwal.

From here we confirm the authenticity of the book's attribution to its author through the authenticity of the chain of transmission to him, as well as the scholars' mention of it as previously shown; and praise be to Allah alone.

My Chains of Transmission for the Book

And I transmit the book "Al-ʿUzla wa-al-Infirād" (Seclusion and Solitude) by the Imam, the Hadith master Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, from the erudite traditionist Muḥammad Yāsīn ibn Muḥammad ʿĪsā al-Fādānī al-Mālikī, May Allah have mercy on him, by authorization (ijāza), from al-Sharīf Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Ḥayy al-Kattānī, from al-Shihāb Aḥmad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Suwaydī, from al-Sayyid Murtaḍā al-Zabīdī, from Muḥammad ibn Sinna, from Mawlāy al-Sharīf, from Ibn Arkamāsh, from the traditionist, the Sheikh of Hadith masters Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī, from ʿĪsā al-Muṭʿim, from Jaʿfar ibn ʿAlī ibn Hibat Allāh al-Hamadānī, from Abū al-Ṭāhir al-Silafī, who said: Rizq Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Tamīmī informed us: Abū ʿAbd Allāh Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf ibn Dūst informed us: Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn Ṣafwān al-Bardhʿī informed us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī al-Dunyā narrated it to us.

And this is a chain of transmission of the utmost loftiness and purity of the chain of transmission; and Allah is the Grantor of success to what He loves and is pleased with, for indeed He is Capable of all things.
