Why ʿUrwa withdrew into seclusion

118 - Muḥammad ibn Yazīd Abū Jaʿfar al-Ādamī narrated to us: Abū Ḍamra narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwa, who said: When he built his palace in al-ʿAqīq, people said to him: "Have you turned away from the Mosque of the Messenger of God, Peace and blessings of God be upon him?" He said: "Indeed, I saw their mosques distracted, their markets filled with vain talk, and indecency in their paths—I think he said: manifest—and he was, over there, in safety from what they were engaged in."
