= 1 - Saʿīd ibn Abī Maryam, from Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb, with it: reported by Abū ʿUbayd al-Qāsim ibn Sallām in Al-Mawāʿiẓ wa-al-Khuṭab no. (11 - Ramadān ʿAbd al-Tawwāb ed.), al-Ṭabarānī in his Al-Kabīr (vol. 17, no. 741), al-Rūyānī in his Musnad (185), al-Bayhaqī in Al-Shuʿab (4930), and in Al-Zuhd (236).
2 - Ibn Wahb, who said: Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb reported to me, with it:
He reported it in his Al-Jāmiʿ fī al-Ḥadīth under no. (374).
I say: And this chain of transmission is very weak. ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Zaḥr is weak, and his teacher is disacknowledged in hadith (munkar al-ḥadīth). And Ibn Zaḥr was corroborated; he was corroborated by: Muʿān ibn Rifāʿa, from ʿAlī, with it:
Reported by Aḥmad (4/148) and al-Ṭabarānī in Al-Kabīr (vol. 17, no. 741).
And Ibn Yazīd was corroborated; he was corroborated by: Thābit ibn Thawbān, from his father, from Abū Umāmah, with it:
Reported by al-Ṭabarānī in his Al-Kabīr (vol. 17, no. 743) and in Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn under no. (253).
I say: Its chain is good (hasan) in corroborating evidences.
And Aḥmad (4/148), Hannād in Al-Zuhd (460, 1027), and Ibn al-Najjār in Dhayl Tārīkh Baghdād (3/225–226) reported it from the route of Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh: Usayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Khathʿamī narrated to me, from Farwa ibn Mujāhid, from ʿUqbah, with it.
And in Dhayl al-Tārīkh it occurred as: "Asad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān", and this is a mistake.
I say: And this is an authentic chain of transmission, and through it the hadith is authentic, praise be to Allāh alone. And regarding this topic, reports are narrated from:
1 - Thawbān (may God be pleased with him) directly attributed to the Prophet with the wording: "Blessed is he who controls his tongue, finds his home spacious for him, and weeps over his sin."
Reported by al-Ṭabarānī in Al-Awsaṭ (5102 - Majmaʿ al-Baḥrayn) and in his Al-Ṣaghīr (204).
And its chain is good (hasan), Allāh willing. It will come under no. (2) with further documentation, and Allāh is the Granter of success.
2 - Abū Umāmah (may God be pleased with him) directly attributed to the Prophet, containing: "so let his home be spacious for him, and weep over your sin."
Reported by al-Ṭabarānī in his Al-Kabīr (vol. 8, no. 7706). Al-Haythamī said in Al-Majmaʿ (10/299): "In it is Ghufayr ibn Maʿdān, and he is weak." Rather, he is very weak.
3 - Al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām (may God be pleased with him) directly attributed to the Prophet with the wording: "Control this," pointing to his tongue.
Reported by al-Ṭabarānī in his Al-Kabīr (vol. 3, no. 3348), Ibn Qāniʿ in Muʿjam al-Ṣaḥāba (1/185), and al-Ḍiyāʾ in Al-Mukhtāra (fol. 89/a), from the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ziyād ibn Sulaymān ibn Samʿān: Ibn Shihāb informed us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿd al-Muqʿad informed us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām informed us, from his father, with it. And ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ziyād is abandoned in hadith.
And he was corroborated in it; he was corroborated by: ʿUqayl, from Ibn Shihāb, with it.
Reported by al-Ṭabarānī in his Al-Kabīr (vol. 3, no. 3346), from the route of Rishdīn ibn Saʿd, from ʿUqayl, with it. Its chain is weak due to the weakness of this Rishdīn.
I say: And Rishdīn was corroborated; he was corroborated by: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Sālim al-Mahrī, who is trustworthy, from ʿUqayl, with it: reported by al-Rāmahurmuzī in Al-Muḥaddith al-Fāḍil no. (616): And this is an authentic chain of transmission. Sheikh al-Albānī did not mention it in Al-Ṣaḥīḥa (2/583 - Al-Maktab al-Islāmī ed.): And this route is rare (aziz), and praise be to Allāh alone.
4 - Aswad ibn Aṣram (may God be pleased with him), who said: I said: "O Messenger of Allāh, advise me." He said: "Control your hand." I said: "What do I control if I do not control my hand?" He said: "Control your tongue." I said: "What do I control if I do not control my tongue?" He said: "Do not extend your hand except toward good, and do not say with your tongue except what is good."
