138 - ʿAbdullāh narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn said: Aḥmad ibn Sahl narrated to me: Abū Farwa al-Sāʾiḥ narrated to me—and by Allah, he was among those who acted for Allah out of His love—he said: While I was wandering in some mountains, I heard the echo of a voice, so I said: "Indeed, something is happening here." So I followed the voice, and suddenly there was a caller calling out: "O One Who granted me comfort through His Remembrance, and made me feel estranged from His creation, and was with me in my joy! Have mercy today on my tear, and bestow upon me of Your knowledge that by which I may increase in closeness to You! O Great in favor toward His allies, make me today among Your God-fearing allies!" He said: Then I heard a cry, but I saw no one. I approached the direction of the voice, and there was an old man fallen unconscious, part of his body exposed, so I covered him. Then I remained by him until he regained consciousness and said: "Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you?" I said: "A man from the children of Adam." He said: "Get away from me, for from you people I fled!" He said: Then he wept, stood up, and departed,

leaving me. I said: "May Allah have mercy on you, show me the way!" So he gestured with his hand toward the sky and said: "Up there."
