141 - ʿAbdullāh narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn said: Ḥakīm ibn Jaʿfar narrated to me: ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Nūḥ narrated to me, saying: I met a man among the worshippers on one of the islands alone, so I said: "O my brother! What are you doing here alone? Do you not feel lonely?" He said: "Loneliness in places other than this is far more widespread." I said: "How long have you been here?" He said: "For thirty years." I said: "Where does your food come from?" He said: "From the Bestower of Blessings." I said: "So is there anything near you that you rely upon, so that whenever you need food you return to it?" He said: "How distressed you are over that which has already been sufficed for you and guaranteed to you!" I said: "Tell me about your affair." He said: "I have no affair other than what you see, except that I spend night and day in this state, relying upon the Generosity of Him Whom neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes." He said: Then he uttered a cry that startled me, so I jumped, while he fell unconscious; so I left him in that state and went away.
