al-'Uzlah wa-l-Infirad — Encouragement of Seclusion

(1) Da'if (Weak): Transmitted by al-ʿAskarī and al-Silafī, as in al-Maqāṣid al-Ḥasana, no. (1258), from al-Ḥasan in Mursal form. I say: Its chain of transmission is weak due to its being Mursal. And Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm was dissented from; he was dissented from by Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān ibn Hishām al-Khazzār, from Ibn Abī ʿAdī, from Yūnus, from al-Ḥasan, from Anas, as connected and Marfu'. Transmitted by Ibn Ḥibbān in al-Majrūḥīn (2/305). And he said regarding this al-Khazzār: "His hadith is objectionable (munkar) among trustworthy narrators; it is as if he steals hadiths, deliberately taking specific known hadiths narrated from their teachers. It is not permissible to use him as proof under any circumstances." And Ibn ʿAdī said regarding him: "He connects the hadith and steals it." I say: Thus the chain of transmission is objectionable (munkar), for what is known is that it is Mursal, and Allah knows best. And on this topic from: Abū Umāma—Marfu', with it: Transmitted by al-Ṭabarānī in his al-Kabīr (vol. 8, no. 1980), al-Quḍāʿī in al-Shihāb, no. (1322), and al-Shajarī in his Amālī (2/156–157, 157), with a very frail chain of transmission, containing: Ghufayr ibn Maʿdān, whose hadith is abandoned (matrūk). The correct view is that it is Mawquf upon Abū al-Dardāʾ, as will come under no. (26). And it was also reported from: al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ; transmitted by Abū ʿAmr al-Dānī in al-Fitan (120), and Ibn al-Bannāʾ in al-Risāla al-Mughniya, no. (16—edited by me / Dār al-Ṭalāʾiʿ ed.). And al-ṣawāmiʿ (monasteries) is the plural of ṣawmaʿa, which is: the monk's cell/steeple.
