A Man's Condition Upon Remembering the Grave

55 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, he said: Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, on the authority of a man, who said: "I entered upon a man at al-Maṣṣīṣa in a house in which were his horse, its fodder, and his furnishings. I said: 'Does your soul not feel constrained by this?!' So he wept and said: 'When I remember the grave, its tightness, and its darkness, this feels spacious to me, and I become unconcerned with anything else.'"
