74 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: And Hārūn ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to me, saying: Muḥammad ibn Yazīd ibn Khunays narrated to me, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd Allāh said: Al-Ḥasan said: A man from the Helpers (Ansar) came to us, and he said to my companions: "Would you like to go to this righteous man so that we may fulfill his right, and I ask God to let us hear a word from him through which God will benefit us?" So we came to a man preoccupied with himself, talking much to himself, resting his chin on his chest. We greeted him with peace, so he returned the greeting of peace and raised his head to us, then returned to his initial state. We remained for a long time while he did not speak to us, nor did we dare to speak to him. So I gestured to my companions to stand up. When he sensed that we had stood up, he raised his head to us, and lo, he saw an appearance different from the appearance of his companions whom he had known. He said: "Until when will you remain upon what I see? You have become like nothing but cattle!" Then he said: "You have indeed exhausted the admonishers!" Then he returned to his initial state. By God, he added nothing more to us than that, nor did we gain more from him than that. (1)
