78 - ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿIjlī narrated to us: Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb narrated to us: al-Suddī ibn Yaḥyā, the truthful, the trustworthy, narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr narrated to us, saying: I went out with my father, and we were in a desert land. A dark silhouette appeared to us, so we thought it was a tree. But when we drew near, there was a man standing in prayer. So [my father] waited for him to finish so he could guide us to the village we wanted. When he did not finish, my father said to him: "We are heading to such-and-such village, so point us toward it with your hand." He said: So he did so.

He said: And he had a constructed basin, dry with no water in it, and a dry waterskin. So my father said to him: "We see you in a desert land, and you have no water, so will you allow us to put some of this water we have into your waterskin?" So he gestured: "No." He did not leave until a cloud arrived and rained, so that basin of his was filled. Then when we entered the village, we mentioned him to them. They said: "Yes, that is so-and-so; he is never in a place without it receiving rain." He said: So my father said: "How many a righteous servant of God there is whom we do not know!" (1).
