[This report is narrated in most books of the Sunnah and creed without rejection, and they cited it as evidence against the negating Jahmites (al-Jahmiyyah al-Mu‘attilah). Its documentation (takhrij) will follow under No. 46].

7, 8, and 9. al-A‘mash (d. 148 AH), Sufyan al-Thawri (d. 161 AH), and Waki‘ (d. 197 AH) (may Allah Almighty have mercy upon them).

Waki‘ narrated the hadith of ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): “When the Lord (Mighty and Majestic is He) sits upon the Footstool (al-Kursi)…” A man shuddered in the presence of Waki‘, so Waki‘ became angry and said: “I met al-A‘mash and Sufyan, and they would narrate these hadiths without denying them.” [This will follow under No. 43].

Then ‘Abdullah cited the hadith of ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): “When the Lord (Mighty and Majestic is He) sits upon the Footstool (al-Kursi)…” through various chains, and then mentioned the aforementioned rejection by Waki‘. [This will follow under No. 40].

  1. ‘Abd al-Wahhab al-Warraq (d. 251 AH) (may Allah have mercy upon him). Regarding the statement of the Exalted: {The Most Merciful rose (istawa) over the Throne}, he said: “He sat (qa‘ada).” [This will follow under No. 50].

  2. ‘Uthman ibn Sa‘id al-Darimi (d. 280 AH) (may Allah have mercy upon him). He said in the course of his rebuttal to the Jahmite in al-Naqd (p. 52), while mentioning the meaning of
