Translation · EN

His Messenger, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and the imams of the Muslims and their scholars among the people of hadith?

And there are no imams for the Muslims other than the people of hadith.

4- The hadith master Abū al-Ḥajjāj Yūsuf b. Khalīl b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Dimashqī informed us: Abū Muslim Hishām, known as al-Muʾayyad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥīm b. al-Ikhwa al-Baghdādī, informed us in Iṣbahān, he said: The Imam Ismāʿīl b. Muḥammad b. al-Faḍl al-Aṣbahānī, may Allah have mercy on him, said (1):

The people of realities (2) have spoken regarding the explanation of Al-Ḥadd with various expressions, the outcome of those expressions being: that Al-Ḥadd of everything is the point of its separation from other than it.

So if the intent of the one who says: "God has no Al-Ḥadd" is:

a- The knowledge of the creation does not encompass Him; then he is correct.

b- And if his intent by that is: God's knowledge does not encompass Himself; then he is astray.

c- Or if his intent is: that God is in every place in His Essence; then he is also astray (3).

Notes

  • (1) He is Qawām al-Sunna Abū al-Qāsim al-Taymī, may Allah have mercy on him, and his biography was presented recently.

  • (2) They are the people of the Sunna and verification in knowledge, and what is not intended by them are the people of realities according to the method of the people of innovation among the Sufis and others who divide knowledge into Sharia and reality.

  • (3) I did not find this text in his famous book Al-Ḥujja fī Bayān al-Maḥajja; however, al-Dhahabī, may Allah have mercy on him, transmitted it from him in his biography in Al-Siyar (20/85), saying: Abū al-Qāsim al-Taymī, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked: Is it permissible to say: God has Al-Ḥadd or not? And did this disagreement occur among the Predecessors?

He answered: "This is an issue I ask to be excused from answering due to its obscurity, and my lack of understanding of the questioner's intent behind it; however, I will point to some of what has reached me: The people of realities spoke..." etc.

Then he mentioned something similar to what the author cited. =
