knowledge of the speech of the Arabs nor of their languages.

24 - Thus, from the school of law of the partisans of hadith, who are the people of the Sunna, and the Imams of the Muslims and their scholars, they believe and testify: that whoever says:

(God Almighty does not have a limit), meaning by that:

that God is in every place (1), or He did not rise over the Throne as is established in the hearts of the common people (2), or He, Exalted is He, is not a person (3),

Notes

  • (1) The first to say that Allah is in every place was the imam of the Jahmiyya, al-Jahm b. Ṣafwān—may Allah curse him—and the people of the Sunna have reached a consensus on his misguidance and disbelief. See: al-Ibāna al-Kubrā (2656), and al-ʿArsh by al-Dhahabī (175). This creed is what the creeds of the Jahmiyya, with all their sects and schools, are based upon, as al-Dārimī, may Allah have mercy on him, said in his Radd ʿalā al-Jahmiyya (195): "You claim that your god whom you used to worship is in every place, situated upon everything, having no limit (Al-Ḥadd) or end according to you, and no place is devoid of him according to your claim."
  • (2) A similar statement has preceded from Yazīd b. Hārūn and ʿAbd Allāh b. Maslama al-Qaʿnabī, may Allah have mercy on him. See: (Paragraph / 19) and the commentary on it.
  • (3) The Sunna indicates the permissibility of applying the term (person/shakhṣ) to Allah Almighty, and upon this the people of the Sunna have titled chapters in their works. al-Bukhārī, may Allah have mercy on him, said in his Ṣaḥīḥ in (Book of Monotheism (Tawhid)) (4/387): (Chapter: The statement of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him: "There is no person more jealous than Allah...") the hadith. And similar to it is in al-Sunna by Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim (1/364), and al-Arbaʿīn fī Dalāʾil al-Tawḥīd by al-Harawī (p. 51).
