Notes

al-Sunan (7/101), and al-Nūniyya (1292).

9- Ibn Kathīr, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned it in his Tafsir (4/307) and did not follow it up with any criticism; rather, he accepted it and used it as evidence.

10- Sheikh ʿAbd al-Laṭīf b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ḥasan, may Allah have mercy on him, said in al-Durar al-Saniyya (3/292): "The Hadith masters accepted it and declared it Sahih (Authentic)." End quote.

11- Al-Muʿallimī, may Allah have mercy on him, in al-Tankīl (1/347).

I say: Despite the successive agreement of the people of the Sunna upon accepting it, explaining it, and using it as evidence, al-Albānī said regarding it: "The hadith of Abū Razīn, despite its fame and the enthusiasm of some (Salafis) for it!! is not Sahih (Authentic)... etc." See his commentary on al-Tankīl (2/347).

And he declared its chain of transmission defective in al-Silsila al-Ḍaʿīfa (5320) due to the anonymity of Wakīʿ b. Ḥudus!

How can he be anonymous when Ibn Ḥibbān said about him in Mashāhīr ʿUlamāʾ al-Amṣār (no. 973): "He is among the reliable authorities." End quote.

Al-Jūraqānī said in al-Abāṭīl wa-al-Manākīr (1/232): "Truthful, of sound hadith."

Everyone among the scholars who declared this hadith Sahih (Authentic) and accepted it proves that he is not anonymous according to them.

It is no secret that adopting the statements of the early Imams of the Sunna and the scholars of the narrations, the people of Discrediting and Attestation (the Salafis), is what is incumbent upon every person of the Sunna and following, and Allah knows best.

The Imams of the Sunna have spoken about the meaning of this hadith and explained its wording, and this is another proof of their acceptance of it in chain of transmission and Matn, and it is no secret that Interpretation is a branch of authentication.

Al-Muʿallimī said in al-Tankīl (2/32): "It may become clear to the Imams of hadith regarding a hadith from the narration of a reliable, firm narrator who is agreed upon that it is Da'if (Weak), and regarding a hadith from the narration of someone who is Da'if (Weak) according to them that it is Sahih (Authentic), and the obligation upon those below them is to submit to them." End quote.

I say: The most famous of those who impugned this hadith and rejected it are the Ash'arite deniers of attributes, such as al-Rāzī, Ibn Jamāʿa, Ibn al-Athīr, and others among the later deniers. The likes of these are not to be paid attention to in the presence of the Imams of the Sunna (the Salafis), the people of Discrediting and Attestation, so take note!
