the status of God is greater than that. Woe to you!! Do you know what God is? Indeed, His Throne is over His heavens and His earth like this - like a dome -, and it creaks under Him like the creaking of a saddle under the rider."

al-Bukhārī narrated it in "al-Tarikh", and Abu Dawud narrated it in "al-Sunan" (1).

29- 'Abd al-Rahman bin Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Maqdisi narrated to us, the Judge Abu al-Majd Muhammad Ibn al-Husayn bin Ahmad al-Qazwini informed us, Abu Mansur Muhammad bin As'ad bin Muhammad bin Hafada al-'Utaridi informed us, the Imam and Hadith master Abu Muhammad al-Husayn bin Mas'ud al-Baghawi, may Allah have mercy on him, informed us, Abu 'Ali al-Husayn bin Muhammad informed us, Abu Nu'aym Ibn [17/A] al-Hasan al-Isfarayini narrated to us, my father's maternal uncle Abu 'Awana Ya'qub the Hadith master informed us, Abu al-Azhar Ahmad bin al-Azhar informed us, Wahb bin Jarir narrated to us, my father narrated to us, he said: I heard Muhammad bin Ishaq narrating from Ya'qub bin 'Utba, from Jubayr bin Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mut'im, from his father, from his grandfather, who said:

A bedouin stood up before the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and said: O Messenger of God, souls are emaciated, families are hungry, and wealth has perished, so ask your Lord for rain for us, for we seek God's intercession with you, and your intercession with God.

Notes

  • (1) The author narrated it by way of Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in al-Sunna (587), and attributed it to al-Bukhārī in his Tārīkh (2/224), and to Abū Dāwūd in his Sunan (4726), and its referencing will follow. Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: And Abū Dāwūd narrated with a Hasan (Good) chain of transmission according to him, from Jubayr b. Muḥammad b. Jubayr b. Muṭʿim... and he mentioned it, then said: So reflect upon this context; does it admit anything other than the Literal meaning in any way? End quote. Mukhtaṣar al-Ṣawāʿiq (3/1067-1079).
