31- Abu Sulayman al-Khattabi (1) said: And His statement: "Indeed, it creaks under Him", its meaning is:
Notes
- Shaykh al-Islām Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (d. 1206 AH), may Allah have mercy on him.
For he used it as evidence in Kitāb al-Tawḥīd (Chapter: Intercession is not sought by Allah upon His creation).
-
Shaykh ʿAbd al-Laṭīf b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān (d. 1293 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, one of the Imams of the people of Najd, said in al-Rasāʾil wa-al-Masāʾil al-Najdiyya (3/244): "And this hadith, the Jahmī cannot bear to hear it, and none believes in it except the People of the Sunna and the Congregation, who know Allah by His attributes of perfection, and declare Him free from elevating Himself over what does not befit His perfection and holiness among the rest of His creatures." End quote.
-
Sharaf al-Ḥaqq al-ʿAẓīm Ābādī in ʿAwn al-Maʿbūd (10/13).
I say: These are the ones who authenticated this hadith among the people of knowledge, hadith, the Sunna, and others; I do not think they would unite upon authenticating a Da'if (Weak) hadith. Yet, despite that, you see the succession of many contemporary editors of the books of the Sunna in weakening this hadith, in imitation of al-Albānī in his ruling upon it as weak, as in al-Silsila al-Ḍaʿīfa (2639)!
- (1) Al-Khaṭṭābī: He is Ḥamd b. Muḥammad al-Bustī (d. 388 AH). He used to follow the path of the theologians among the Ash'arites and others in most of the chapters of the Names and Attributes. In his commentaries, such as Maʿālim al-Sunan, Aʿlām al-Ḥadīth fī Sharḥ Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, and others, there is much interpretation and distortion of the texts of the Attributes. Many of the later scholars were influenced by him due to the abundance of quoting from his books!! Al-Baghawī quotes from him very frequently, and he may quote some interpretations from him without following up on them!! Al-Baghawī quoted al-Khaṭṭābī's speech after the hadith of the creaking, then followed up on it, saying: "And the obligation regarding it and its likes is: faith in what came in the hadith, submission, and leaving off disposing of it with the intellect." End quote. And see in the appendix of this book the discussion of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyya, may Allah have mercy on him, with al-Khaṭṭābī regarding the issue of his denial of Al-Ḥadd for Allah Almighty, and his vilification of the People of the Sunna for their affirmation of Al-Ḥadd.
