37- And he said in some of his compilations:
"I have cited it in other than this book in a manner that leaves no way to repel or reject it except by way of stubbornness, and no way to impugn its authenticity except by way of obstinacy.
Our Sheikh Abu 'Abdullah al-Maqdisi recorded it in the book: 'al-Musnad al-Sahih'. And others among the Imams and Hadith masters (1) narrated it."
It was narrated from Abū Isḥāq by:
1- Sufyān al-Thawrī. ʿAbdullāh b. Aḥmad recorded it in "Al-Sunna" (996) from his father, and ʿAbd al-Aʿlā al-Narsī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Mahdī, from Sufyān as mawqūf.
Al-Bazzār (325) recorded it as a suspended report (muʿallaq) from al-Thawrī.
2- Shuʿba. It was narrated as mawqūf and marfūʿ.
Ibn Mājah recorded it in "Al-Tafsīr" as stated in "Tahdhīb al-Kamāl" by al-Mizzī (14/456), from Salm b. Qutayba, from him as mawqūf.
Al-Khaṭīb recorded it in his "Taʾrīkh" (1/295), and al-Ḍiyāʾ in "Al-Mukhtāra" (154, and by his route al-Dashtī as preceded), from Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Khālid al-Qāḍī, from Saʿīd b. Muḥammad, from Salm b. Qutayba, from Shuʿba as marfūʿ.
Al-Qāḍī made a mistake in it and elevated it (rafaʿahu).
Al-Khaṭīb said in his "Taʾrīkh" (1/195): Ibn Ghālib (al-Barqānī) told us: Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraquṭnī said: Al-Qāḍī al-Būrānī was alone in narrating it.
Ibn Ghālib said: It is said: It is an error (wahm), and the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is from Qutayba, from Isrāʾīl, from Abū Isḥāq, and the hadith of Shuʿba is mawqūf.
