Notes

a- Wakīʿ. ʿAbdullāh recorded it in "Al-Sunna" (570), Ibn Khuzayma in "Al-Tawḥīd" (151 and 152), al-Khallāl in "Al-Sunna" (255), and al-Khaṭīb in "Al-Taʾrīkh" (8/52).

b- ʿAbdullāh b. Rajāʾ. Al-Dārimī recorded it in "Al-Naqḍ" (102), and Abū al-Shaykh in "Al-ʿAẓama" (260).

c- Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī. ʿAbdullāh recorded it in "Al-Sunna" (578), and by his route al-Dhahabī in "Al-ʿArsh" (98), and Ibn Jarīr in "Al-Tafsīr" (3/11); however, he narrated it as marfūʿ with the mention of ʿUmar, may God be pleased with him, which is a mistake.

d- ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsā. ʿAbd b. Ḥumayd recorded it; Ibn Kathīr mentioned it in "Musnad al-Fārūq" (2/569), and Ibn Jarīr in "Al-Tafsīr" (3/10).

e- Muʾammal b. Ismāʿīl. ʿAbd b. Ḥumayd recorded it, as Ibn Kathīr mentioned in "Musnad al-Fārūq".

  • Wordings of the matn of the hadith:

1- The word: (al-aṭīṭ - creaking). All narrators agreed on mentioning it.

2- The words: (al-quʿūd - sitting) and (al-julūs - sitting): They were affirmed by reliable hadith masters, among them:

1- Sufyān al-Thawrī, and he is sufficient for you.

2- Isrāʾīl; reliable companions of his affirmed it from him.

3- Wakīʿ.

4- ʿAbdullāh b. Rajāʾ.

5- Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī.

6- ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsā.

7- Muʾammal b. Ismāʿīl.

8- Yaḥyā b. Abī Bukayr in the narration of (al-Qaṭawānī, and ʿUthmān b. Abī Shayba).

3- The word: (al-thiqal - heaviness). Its mention came in the narration of: Isrāʾīl; it was affirmed from him by: ʿAbdullāh b. Rajāʾ, ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsā, Muʾammal b. Ismāʿīl, and Yaḥyā b. Abī Bukayr in the narration of the nine from him except ʿUthmān b. Abī Shayba.

4- The wording: [(fa) mā yafḍulu minhu (ʿanhu) miqdār (qīd) arbaʿ aṣābiʿ - (and) mā [what / there does not] remain of it (from it) the measure (extent) of four fingers]: No one narrated this wording except Isrāʾīl. It was narrated by (al-Qaṭawānī, ʿUthmān b. Abī Shayba, Abū Bakr b. Isḥāq, and al-Ḥasan b. Nāṣiḥ) from Yaḥyā b. Abī Bukayr / [Ḥ], and it was narrated by Ḥusayn b. Maʿdān — and al-Dārimī contradicted him —
