...located between Erbil and Tabriz. I saw it flourishing and full of prosperity; its inhabitants are all Kurds." [End quote].

Al-Irbili: as stated by al-Dhahabi.

Erbil—spelled with a kasra, followed by a sukun, and then a kasra—is situated at a journey of seven miles from Baghdad for caravans, and it is part of the administrative districts of Mosul.

Al-Anami: stated by the scribe of his book Ithbat al-Hadd and by al-Dimyati; it is also mentioned in the biography of his nephew.

Al-Halabi, al-Kurdi, and al-Hanbali: these are all among the titles of his nephew.

Al-Misri (the Egyptian): so named due to his death in Egypt.

Distinguishing between him and his nephew:

His nephew is Ahmad ibn Muhammad, Abu Bakr al-Dashti, who was a teacher of al-Dhahabi.

Birth:

Circa 600 AH; he lived to be over sixty years of age and died in the year 665 AH.

His Teachers:

Al-Dhahabi said: "He heard [hadiths] extensively."

Among them were:
