Erbil—spelled with a kasra, followed by a sukun, and then a kasra—is situated at a journey of seven miles from Baghdad for caravans, and it is part of the administrative districts of Mosul.

Al-Halabi, al-Kurdi, and al-Hanbali: these are all among the titles of his nephew.

His nephew is Ahmad ibn Muhammad, Abu Bakr al-Dashti, who was a teacher of al-Dhahabi.
