he said: The Footstool is the place of the two feet, and it has a creaking like the creaking of the saddle (1).
The author narrated it by way of Ibn Mandah in al-Radd ʿalā al-Jahmiyya (17), and by way of ʿAbd Allāh b. Aḥmad in al-Sunna (573).
It was also narrated by Muḥammad b. Abī Shayba in al-ʿArsh (60), Ibn Jarīr in his Tafsīr (9/3), Abū al-Shaykh in al-ʿAẓama (245), and al-Bayhaqī in al-Ṣifāt (859).
The chain of transmission of this report is Sahih (Authentic), were it not for the broken link between ʿUmāra and Abū Mūsā, may God be pleased with him; for he is not known to have heard from Abū Mūsā, may God be pleased with him. Rather, he heard from Ibrāhīm b. Abī Mūsā; so perhaps he heard this report from him, narrating from him.
I say: And testifying to the beginning of this report: "The Footstool is the place of the two Feet," is what was narrated by ʿAbd Allāh b. Aḥmad in al-Sunna (572), al-Dārimī in al-Naqḍ (89), Ibn Khuzayma in al-Tawḥīd (156), and others, from Ibn ʿAbbās, may God be pleased with them both, with a Sahih (Authentic) chain of transmission, saying:
"The Footstool is the place of the two Feet, and the Throne, no one can estimate its measure."
Al-Dārimī, may Allah have mercy on him, said in al-Naqḍ (89): "This is what we have known from Ibn ʿAbbās, may God be pleased with them both, as Sahih (Authentic) and well-known." End quote.
Al-Azharī, may Allah have mercy on him, said in Tahdhīb al-Lugha (10/54): "The scholars have agreed upon the authenticity of this narration." End quote.
It was authenticated by Abū Zurʿa as in al-Tawḥīd by Ibn Mandah (1002), and by Ibn Mandah in al-Radd ʿalā al-Jahmiyya (17).
I say: The people of the Sunna and reports have received with acceptance what this report indicates regarding the affirmation of the two Feet for God Almighty, and that the Footstool is the place of the two Feet of the Lord Almighty.
Among those who related the consensus of the people of the Sunna on that are:
