Translation · EN

42- And by it, ʿAbd Allāh said: My father and ʿAbd al-Aʿlā bin Ḥammād al-Narsī narrated to me, they said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān bin Mahdī narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAbd Allāh bin Khalīfa, from ʿUmar [may God be pleased with him], he said: When He, Mighty and Majestic, sits upon the Footstool, a creaking is heard from it like the creaking of a new saddle (1). [22/A]

43- And by it, ʿAbd Allāh said: My father narrated to me, Wakīʿ narrated to us - with the hadith of Isrāʾīl - from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAbd Allāh bin Khalīfa, from ʿUmar [may God be pleased with him]: When the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, sits upon the Footstool.

A man - whom my father named - shuddered in the presence of Wakīʿ, so Wakīʿ became angry and said: We reached al-Aʿmash and Sufyān narrating these hadiths without rejecting them (2).

44- And by it, ʿAbd Allāh said: My father narrated to me, Abū al-Mughīra narrated to us, ʿAbda bint Khālid bin Maʿdān narrated to us, from her father Khālid that he said: Indeed, the Most Merciful, Mighty and Majestic, Transcendent is He, becomes heavy upon the bearers of the Throne at the beginning of the day when the polytheists rise, until when those who glorify Him rise, it is lightened for the bearers of the Throne (3).

Notes

  • (1) Narrated by ʿAbd Allāh b. Aḥmad in al-Sunna (996).
  • (2) Narrated by ʿAbd Allāh b. Aḥmad in al-Sunna (571).
  • (3) Narrated by ʿAbd Allāh b. Aḥmad in al-Sunna (1003), and al-Dīnawarī in al-Mujālasa (23). Abū al-Shaykh narrated something similar in al-ʿAẓama (536) without mentioning the witness. Al-ʿIjlī said: "Khālid b. Maʿdān is a Levantine Successor, trustworthy." Yaʿqūb b. Shayba said: "He is counted among the third generation of the jurists of the people of the Levant after the Companions, may God be pleased with them." Khālid b. Maʿdān said: "I met seventy men from the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him." [See: Tahdhīb al-Kamāl (8/167), al-Siyar (4/536)].
