Notes

the Jahmiyya and those who followed them in their false statement among the scholars of Ahl al-Sunna in the third century and thereafter. Many famous leading figures and authors of numerous works in various sciences have adopted it; may Allah protect us and the rest of the Muslims from following their slips. The statement according to the school of the Jahmiyya continues to our time, and I have seen that in some of the writings of contemporaries and their erroneous commentaries. It was mentioned to me about some of those affiliated with knowledge that he presented that to the students in some of the major institutes in the city of Riyadh, and when some students mentioned the statement of Ahl al-Sunna to him, he turned away from it and insisted on the statement of the Jahmiyya; may Allah save us and the rest of the Muslims from what He afflicted him with."

Sheikh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz bin Bāz, may Allah have mercy on him, wrote the foreword to this book, and among what he said in it is:

"...I found it to be a valuable book, of great benefit, in which he mentioned the authentic hadiths reported regarding the creation of Adam in the form of the Most Merciful... He has done excellently and provided benefit, and clarified what is the truth in this issue: which is that the pronoun in the authentic hadith 'He created Adam in His form' refers to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and it conforms to what came in the hadith of Ibn ʿUmar, may God be pleased with them both, that Allah: 'created Adam in the form of the Most Merciful.' It has been authenticated by: Imam Aḥmad, Isḥāq, al-Ājurrī, Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyya, and other Imams, may the mercy of Allah be upon them all. Many Imams have clarified the error of Imam Ibn Khuzayma, may Allah have mercy on him, in this regarding his denial of the pronoun returning to Allah..." etc.

Meanwhile, al-Albānī said about this book, as in the footnote of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Adab al-Mufrad (1/382):

"Sheikh al-Tuwayjirī, may Allah have mercy on him, has offended both the creed (Aqidah) and the authentic Sunna together by his authorship which he named:

ʿAqīdat Ahl al-Īmān fī Khalq Ādam ʿalā Ṣūrat al-Raḥmān..." etc.

And he said: "Whoever returns the pronoun to Allah Almighty has fallen into anthropomorphism (tashbīh)!!"

And he said: "Whoever says: '(Saying) the pronoun returns to Adam is a Jahmī,' then his statement is out of strictness, zeal, and heat!!" Then he described the transmission by Ibn Taymiyya, may Allah have mercy on him, of the consensus of the Predecessors (Salaf) on not interpreting this hadith as: an error and a contradiction! [Silsilat al-Hudā, tape (295)].

2 - And among those who dedicated an independent work to this issue is: Sheikh ʿAbdullāh bin Muḥammad al-Dawīsh, may Allah have mercy on him, in his book which he named: Difāʿ Ahl al-Sunna wa-al-Īmān ʿan Ḥadīth Khalq Ādam ʿalā Ṣūrat
