Notes

He, the Exalted, said: {and no weariness touched Us} [Qāf: 38]. For the negation of being touched by weariness, which is fatigue and exhaustion, indicates the perfection of ability and the utmost limit of power, unlike the created being who is afflicted by whatever exhaustion and weariness afflicts him!!

Likewise, we say regarding this hadith: "Indeed, God, Mighty and Majestic, created His creation, then established Himself over the Throne," and "He lay on His back and placed one of His legs over the other" without fatigue, exhaustion, or seeking rest. There is nothing like unto Him, neither in His essence, nor in His attributes, nor in His actions. He is not questioned about what He does. He is independent of all His creation, the Throne and otherwise, and all of them are in absolute need of their Lord; they cannot do without Him for the blink of an eye.

As for the alleged Jewish rest, it is like the rest of their lies against God and their disparagement of the station of Lordship, such as their claim when the statement of God Almighty was revealed: {Who is it that would loan God a goodly loan} [Al-Baqara: 245]. The Jews said: "Indeed, God is poor and we are rich; only the poor borrows." Thus, they compared God to His creation, and even to the needy and poor among them. So God revealed concerning them: {God has certainly heard the statement of those who said, "Indeed, God is poor, while we are rich." We will record what they said and their killing of the prophets without right, and We will say, "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire"} [Āl ʿImrān: 181].

The Jews also had a claim accompanying that wicked claim, and God belied them in it, saying, Almighty: {And the Jews say, "The hand of God is chained." Chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they say. Rather, both His hands are extended; He spends however He wills} [Al-Māʾida: 64].

This is what is obligatory upon the monotheist: to reject the false description, and to affirm what God has affirmed for Himself and what His Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, has affirmed for Him.

Those who perished among the Jahmī deniers of attributes and their brothers the Jews only perished because of their drawing analogies and making comparisons between the Creator and the created. The Jahmīs denied the attributes after having made comparisons, while the Jews remained upon their anthropomorphism, and this is striking similitudes for God.

Then we say to them: Indeed, the son of Adam, who was created in hardship, and with whatever weakness and deficiency he has,
