Notes

1 - The Imam of the People of the Sunna and the Congregation, Imam Aḥmad bin Ḥanbal (d. 241 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, said regarding the report of Mujāhid, may Allah have mercy on him: The scholars have received it with acceptance. al-ʿArsh by al-Dhahabī (192).

2 - Abū Dāwūd - the author of al-Sunan (d. 275 AH), may Allah have mercy on him - said: The people have not ceased narrating this, intending to enrage the Jahmiyya, and that is because the Jahmiyya deny that there is anything on the Throne.

And he said: And I did not think that anyone mentioned for [following] the Sunna would speak against this hadith. [al-ʿArsh by al-Dhahabī (194), (244)]

3 - And ʿAbd Allāh bin Aḥmad bin Ḥanbal (d. 290 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, said: I have not seen any of the traditionists reject it, and it was [known] to us at the time we heard it from the sheikhs that only the Jahmiyya reject it. [al-ʿArsh (190)]

4 - And Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī (d. 310 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, said: There is no one from the sects of the Muslims who rejects this, neither those who affirm that God is above the Throne nor those who deny it. [al-ʿArsh (195)].

5 - And Abū Bakr Yaḥyā bin Abī Ṭālib said while speaking about the one who rejected the report of Mujāhid, may Allah have mercy on him:

... And I have not known anyone who rejected the hadith of Mujāhid... And the reliable traditionists bore it, and they narrated it publicly before witnesses, not repelling that, receiving it with acceptance and joy in that. As far as I can see, I have been of sound mind for seventy years, and by God, I do not know anyone who rejected it, and no one rejects it except every malicious innovating Jahmī who calls to the opposite of what our sheikhs and Imams were upon... [al-Sunna by al-Khallāl (268)]

6 - And al-Ājurrī (d. 360 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, said in al-Sharīʿa (3/367): As for the hadith of Mujāhid... the sheikhs among the people of knowledge and transmission of the hadith of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, received it with the best reception, and accepted it with the best acceptance, and they did not reject it. End quote.

7 - Ibn Taymiyya (d. 728 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, said in Darʾ al-Taʿāruḍ (5/237): ... Rather, what is established from Mujāhid and others from the predecessors (Salaf), and the predecessors (Salaf) and the Imams used to narrate it and receive it with acceptance... End quote.

8 - Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said in Badāʾiʿ al-Fawāʾid (3/1380): al-Qāḍī said:
