56- The hadith master Abū al-Ḥajjāj recited to us — from his own wording more than once — the hadith master Abū al-Faraj Thābit b. Muḥammad b. Abī al-Faraj al-Shāfiʿī al-Madīnī informed us in his book, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. al-Ḥusayn the litterateur recited to us — as I think — and he was among the prominent litterateurs of the city, and he was among those approved by the Imam Abū Ṭāhir Miṭyār b. Aḥmad al-Rustamī, about whom the hadith master Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Daqqāq said regarding [his right] (1):

Notes

4 - Ibrāhīm al-Aṣbahānī said: The scholars have narrated this hadith for one hundred and sixty years, and no one rejects it except the people of innovation.

[These reports are in al-Sunna by al-Khallāl (250) and (279)]

5 - al-Ājurrī (d. 360 AH), may Allah have mercy on him, said in al-Sharīʿa (3/367): And they — meaning the people of the Sunna — severely condemned whoever rejected the hadith of Mujāhid, and they said: Whoever rejects the hadith of Mujāhid is an evil man. End quote.

I say: Their condemnation in this chapter against whoever rejects this report is very abundant, and we have dedicated a separate volume to it, may Allah facilitate its completion.

So who would dare, after these statements from the Imams of the people of the Sunna, to oppose them?!

al-Awzāʿī, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Make yourself patient upon the Sunna, stop where the people stopped, say what they said, refrain from what they refrained from, and follow the path of your righteous predecessors (Salaf), for what sufficed them will suffice you. [al-Lālakāʾī (315)]

  • (1) In the original: (in his memory), and the correction is from: Juzʾ Abī Mūsā fī al-Istilqāʾ. The chain of transmission is Sahih (Authentic) as you can see, and Thābit b. Muḥammad was declared reliable by Yūsuf b. Khalīl, al-Mundhirī, and Ibn al-Dubaythī. As for al-Rustamī, al-Ḥusayn — who is reliable — said about him: (The Imam), and al-Daqqāq said: You have not seen...
