Biographical Sources:

Mu‘jam al-Shuyukh by al-Dimyati.

Chronicles: Tarikh al-Islam by al-Dhahabi (years 661–670, pp. 206–207); al-Isharah ila Wafayat al-A‘yan by al-Dhahabi (361); the History of Egypt known as al-Nujum al-Zahirah (7/323); and al-Dalil al-Shafi by Ibn Taghri Birdi (2/723).

Also, al-Muqtafa by al-Birzali; al-Mushtabih by al-Dhahabi (1/4); al-Tawdih by Ibn Nasir al-Din (1/124); al-Tabsir (1/4); and Hashiyat al-Dhayl ‘ala Tabaqat al-Hanabilah (4/90, 684).

Lexicons: Taj al-‘Arus (under the roots d-sh-t and ’-y-n) (4/520); al-Ansab (5/353); and Mu‘jam al-Buldan (2/456). See also the biography of his nephew.

It is a notable omission that al-‘Ibar (by al-Dhahabi), al-Bidayah wa-al-Nihayah (by Ibn Kathir), and Shadharat al-Dhahab (by Ibn al-‘Imad) did not include a biographical entry for him, despite the fact that they included an entry in that same year for his opponent, Abu Shamah al-Maqdisi! Furthermore, I have not encountered him in Tabaqat al-Hanabilah by Ibn Rajab, nor in Tabaqat al-Huffaz by al-Dhahabi, nor in Mu‘jam al-Mu’allifin!
