Ithbāt al-Ḥadd by al-Dashtī — Edited by ‘Ādil Āl Ḥamdān
Volume 1 · Page 327

Translation · EN

b. ʿAbd Allāh, and I think it was ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṭāhir — and with him was Manṣūr b. Ṭalḥa. So Manṣūr said to me: O Abū Yaʿqūb, do you say that God descends to the lowest heaven every night?

I said: And we believe in it. If you do not believe that you have a Lord in the heaven, then you do not need to ask me about this?!

So Ibn Ṭāhir said: Did I not forbid you from this Sheikh?

And it was narrated from Muḥammad b. Ḥātim: I heard Isḥāq b. Rāhawayh say: ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṭāhir said to me: O Abū Yaʿqūb, what are these hadiths that you narrate regarding the descent?

He said: O Emir, these hadiths came just as the rulings, the lawful, and the prohibited came, and the scholars transmitted them, and it is not permissible for them to be rejected; they are as they came without a 'how'.

So ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṭāhir said: You have spoken the truth. I did not know their meanings until now.

And in a narration, he said: They were narrated by those who narrated ritual purity (ṭahāra), ritual bath (ghusl), prayer, and the rulings — and he mentioned things. If they are reliable with these, [then accept them]; otherwise, the rulings are lifted and the Sharia is invalidated.

So he said: May God heal you as you have healed me — or as he said.

  • Shaykh al-Islām [al-Harawī] also narrated what Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Ḥātim mentioned in Al-Radd ʿalā al-Jahmiyya:

ʿAlī b. al-Ḥasan al-Sulamī narrated to us: I heard my father say: Hishām b.
