He [Ibn Taymiyyah] also said: “He has a composition on this subject in which he mentioned what he understood of Ahmad’s creed; however, he did not mention his [Ahmad’s] actual words. Rather, he mentioned the general points of the creed using his own phrasing, repeatedly stating: ‘And Abu ‘Abdullah used to [say]...’ He is in the position of one who compiles a book on jurisprudence according to the opinion of one of the Imams, mentioning his school of thought (madhhab) according to what he understood and saw.” End quote.
