and being established in a place; rather, he means the meaning of the statement of God Almighty: {Do you feel secure that He who is in the heaven} [Al-Mulk: 16], meaning: above it, in the sense of negating Al-Ḥadd from Him." End quote.

[Al-Asmāʾ wa-al-Ṣifāt by al-Bayhaqī (3/1033)]

  1. Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī al-Shāfiʿī al-Ashʿarī (d. 458 AH).

He denied Al-Ḥadd for God Almighty, and did not affirm the highness of God Almighty over His creation, nor His establishment over His Throne.

He said regarding the narrations transmitted from Ibn ʿAbbās, May God be pleased with them both, and others among the Predecessors (Salaf) in interpreting the establishment (al-istiwāʾ) as highness and elevation, after interpreting them and declaring them weak, he said in Al-Asmāʾ wa-al-Ṣifāt (3/1044): "These necessitate Al-Ḥadd, and Al-Ḥadd necessitates origination, due to the need of Al-Ḥadd for a limiter who specified it for Him, while the Creator is eternal and has never ceased to be." End quote.

He narrated the report of ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Mubārak affirming Al-Ḥadd for God Almighty, then he distorted it and interpreted it away from its Apparent meaning, in accordance with their method in the Interpretation and distortion of the words of God Almighty and the words of His Messenger, peace and blessings of God be upon him, saying in Al-Asmāʾ wa-al-Ṣifāt (3/1073): "ʿAbd Allāh only intended by Al-Ḥadd:

the limit of hearing, which is that the report of the truthful one has come stating that He established Himself over the Throne." End quote.

Ibn Ḥajar said in Al-Fatḥ (13/416): "Al-Bayhaqī said: The ascent of good words and good Charity (Sadaqa) is an expression for acceptance, and the ascension of the angels is to their stations in the heaven. As for the expression that occurred in that regarding His statement: ('to God'), it is upon what has preceded from the Predecessors (Salaf) regarding consignment (tafwīḍ), and from the imams after them regarding Interpretation." End quote.

I say: And this statement, or similar to it, is in his Book Al-Asmāʾ wa-al-Ṣifāt (3/1039),

and it is the exact statement of the Jahmiyya in distorting the texts of the attributes.
