Ibn Jarir al-Tabari (d. 310 AH), may Allah have mercy on him. [Al-‘Arsh by al-Dhahabi (3)].
Al-Baghawi (d. 516 AH), may Allah have mercy on him. [Tafsiruhu (1/59), and he attributed this view to most of the commentators among the Salaf].
(3) – In the sense of: sa‘ida (He ascended).
Among those who held this view:
Al-Farra’ said: “{Then He rose (istawa)} means He ascended (sa‘ida),” and this was also stated by Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both. [Al-‘Arsh (5) by al-Dhahabi, and Al-Asma’ wa al-Sifat by al-Bayhaqi (3/1037) (878)].
Abu ‘Ubaydah Ma‘mar ibn al-Muthanna (d. 209 AH). [Tafsir al-Baghawi (2/165)].
(4) – In the sense of: istaqarra (He settled/established).
Among those who held this view:
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both. [Al-Asma’ wa al-Sifat by al-Bayhaqi (873), and Ijtima‘ al-Juyush by Ibn al-Qayyim (p. 249)].
Mujahid (d. 103 AH), may Allah have mercy on him. [Mukhtasar al-Sawa‘iq (2/143)].
٦- بشر بن عُمر الزَّهراني (٢٠٧هـ) رحمه الله قال: سمعت غير واحد من المفسرين يقول: ﴿الرَّحْمَنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَى﴾ أي ارتفع.
