make such a statement except based on clear [knowledge]. Lying against Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is greater than lying against His Messenger (peace be upon him). The least that can be said regarding these reports is that the early Salaf used to transmit among themselves that the righteous among humans are superior to the angels without any objection from them, and none of them disagreed on that. Disagreement only appeared after whims scattered their followers and opinions diverged; thus, it was as though a settled matter among them.

He also said in Bayan Talbis al-Jahmiyyah (3/268), while discussing the report of Ka’b al-Ahbar which mentions the attribute of 'heaviness' (thiqal) for Allah, the Exalted: "This report, even if it is a narration from Ka’b, might be from the knowledge of the People of the Book, or it might be from what he received from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). We said: "What is buhman?" He replied: "They will have nothing with them. Then He will call out to them with a voice that is heard by those nearby: 'I am the King, I am the Requiter (al-Dayyan)...'" [the hadith].

It was narrated by 'Abdullah bin Ahmad in al-Sunnah, al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam and al-Sunnah, and Abu Bakr bin Abi 'Asim in al-Sunnah, citing them as proof. Who else among people are there besides these
