Ithbāt al-Ḥadd by al-Dashtī — Edited by ‘Ādil Āl Ḥamdān
Volume 1 · Page 95Section Four: What Has Been Narrated from the Prophet ﷺ Regarding the Affirmation of Sitting (al-Julus)

Translation · EN

Section Four:

What has been narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding the affirmation of sitting (julus).

Numerous hadiths have been narrated in this regard. Among them are those that are authentic and established, which the People of the Sunnah have received with acceptance and utilized as evidence in refuting the Jahmites, who deny the [Divine] Attributes. Others are weak; however, they are cited for supportive purposes in this chapter, as they possess a basis and corroborating evidence (shahid) from other hadiths that attest to them.

Among these hadiths are:

  1. The hadith of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), which includes the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “And indeed, His Footstool (Kursi) is above the heavens and the earth, and indeed He sits upon it.”

In another wording: “When the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, sits upon His Footstool.”

[Its documentation (takhrij) will follow under number 36].

Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) stated in Majmu‘ al-Fatawa (16/434): “...most of the People of the Sunnah have accepted it... and it has many established routes (turuq) to Sufyan, Isra'il, and others. Abu al-Hasan ibn al-Zaghuni authored a monograph gathering its routes and discussing it in a manner that negates deficiency and originatedness (huduth) from Allah.”
