And I view that the obligatory Prayer was named "Prayer" because the one who prays exposes himself to seeking the success of his request for God's reward through his deed, along with what he asks his Lord of his needs, just as the supplicant exposes himself through his supplication to his Lord seeking the success of his needs and petition.

The commentary on the interpretation of His statement, Exalted be His praise: ﴿and spend out of what We have provided them (3)﴾

The exegetes differed regarding the interpretation of that; some of them expressed the view of what:—

285- Ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us, he said: Salamah narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from Muḥammad ibn Abī Muḥammad, the freed slave of Zayd ibn Thābit, from ʿIkrimah or from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās: "and spend out of what We have provided them," he said: They give Zakat seeking reward for it.

286- Al-Muthannā narrated to me, he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, from Muʿāwiyah, from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭalḥah, from Ibn ʿAbbās: "and spend out of what We have provided them," he said: The Zakat of their wealth (2).

287- Yaḥyā ibn Abī Ṭālib narrated to me, he said: Yazīd narrated to us, he said: Juwaybir informed us, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk: "and spend out of what We have provided them," he said: Expenditures were acts of drawing near through which they drew near to God according to their ease and effort, until the obligatory acts of Charity (Sadaqa) were revealed: seven verses in Sūrat Barāʾah mentioning Charity (Sadaqa); they are the affirmed abrogating ones (3).

And some of them expressed the view of what:—

288- Mūsā ibn Hārūn narrated to me, he said: ʿAmr ibn Ḥammād narrated to us, he said: Asbāṭ narrated to us, from al-Suddī in a report he mentioned, from Abū Mālik and from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Ibn ʿAbbās—and from Murrah al-Hamdānī, from Ibn Masʿūd, and from some people among the Companions

(1) Dīwān al-Aʿshā: 29. And his statement "and faced it to the wind" means he placed it facing the blowing wind, when unsealing it and removing its seal. And it is narrated: "so he turned it to the wind", which is similar. And the man irtasama: he pronounced the takbīr, supplicated, and sought refuge, for fear that he might find it spoiled, so his merchandise would perish.\
(2) Report 286—In the manuscript: "Ibn al-Muthannā", which is an error. The report was mentioned by Ibn Kathīr (1/77).\
(3) Narration 287—Ibn Kathīr mentioned it (1/77), al-Suyūṭī (1/27), and al-Shawkānī (1/25). And his statement "the established ones" (al-muthbatāt): with fatḥa on the bāʾ, meaning those whose ruling was established and not abrogated; and kasra is permissible, in the sense that they established the obligatory duty after their abrogation of what preceded them in revelation. In place of it, al-Suyūṭī and al-Shawkānī have "the abrogating, clarifying ones", which is nothing.
