338- Aḥmad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Ḥakīm narrated to me, saying: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sharīk narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: al-Aʿmash narrated to me, from Zayd ibn Wahb and others, from Salmān, that he said concerning this āyah: {(And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are only peacemakers.")}, he said: These people have not come yet (1).

And others said what—:

339- Mūsā ibn Hārūn narrated to me, saying: ʿAmr ibn Ḥammād narrated to us, saying: Asbāṭ narrated to us, from al-Suddī, in a report he mentioned, from Abū Mālik, and from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Ibn ʿAbbās—and from Murra al-Hamdānī, from Ibn Masʿūd, and from some of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him: {(And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are only peacemakers.")}: They are the hypocrites. As for "Do not cause corruption on the earth," corruption is disbelief and acting in disobedience.

340- And it was narrated to me from ʿAmmār ibn al-Ḥasan, saying: Ibn Abī Jaʿfar narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabīʿ: {(And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth")}, he says: Do not disobey on the earth; {(they say, "We are only peacemakers")}, he said: So their corruption was that disobedience to God, whose praise is Majestic, because whoever disobeys God on the earth or commands disobedience to Him has caused corruption on the earth, since the rectification of the earth and the heaven is through obedience (2).
