ʿAbbās—and from Murra al-Hamdānī, from Ibn Masʿūd, and from some people among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him: {They say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?"}, they mean the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him.

345- Al-Muthannā b. Ibrāhīm narrated to me, he said: Isḥāq b. al-Ḥajjāj narrated to us, he said: ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Jaʿfar narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabīʿ b. Anas: {They say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?"}, they mean the Companions of Muḥammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him.

346- Yūnus b. ʿAbd al-Aʿlā narrated to me, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Zayd b. Aslam narrated to us regarding His statement: "They say, 'Should we believe as the foolish have believed?'", he said: This is the statement of the hypocrites; they intend the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him.

347- Abū Kurayb narrated to us, he said: ʿUthmān b. Saʿīd narrated to us, from Bishr b. ʿUmāra, from Abū Rawq, from al-Daḥḥāk, from Ibn ʿAbbās: {They say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?"}, they say: Should we say as the foolish say? They mean the Companions of Muḥammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him, due to their opposition to their religion (1).

Abū Jaʿfar said: This is a report from God Almighty about the hypocrites whose characterization by Him has preceded, and His description of them with what He described them of doubt and denial—that they are the ignorant ones in their religions,
