what You have taught us. Indeed, You are the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.” He said, “O Adam, inform them of their names.” When he informed them of their names, He said, “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you used to conceal?”—[referring] to their statement: “Let our Lord create whatever He wills, for He will never create a creation more noble to Him than us, nor more knowledgeable than us.” He said: He taught him the name of everything, these mountains, these mules, camels, jinn, and wild beasts; and he began to name everything by its name, and every nation was presented before him. Then He said, “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you used to conceal?” He said: As for what they revealed, it was their statement: “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood?” And as for what they concealed, it was what some of them said to others: “We are better than him and more knowledgeable.” (1)

612- And Al-Muthannā ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to me, he said: Isḥāq ibn al-Ḥajjāj narrated to us, he said: Ibn Abī Jaʿfar narrated to us, from his father, from Al-Rabīʿ ibn Anas, concerning His statement: “I am placing a successor upon the earth,” the verse, he said: Indeed, God created the angels on Wednesday, created the jinn on Thursday, and created Adam on Friday. He said: Then a group of the jinn disbelieved, so the angels used to descend to them on earth and fight them, so blood was shed and corruption occurred on earth. It was from there that they said: “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood?” the verse. (2)
