637- Al-Hasan ibn Yahya narrated to us, he said: 'Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, from Ma'mar, from Ibn Tawus, from his father, and al-Thawri, from 'Ali ibn Badhima, from Mujahid regarding His statement: {I know what you do not know}, he said: He knew of Iblis's disobedience and His creating it for him (1).

638- Ibn Humayd narrated to us, he said: Salama narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq: {I know what you do not know}. That is: among you and from you, which He did not reveal to them, of disobedience, corruption, and shedding blood.

Others said: The meaning of that is: I know what you do not know, in that there will be from that vicegerent people of obedience and allegiance to Allah.

• Mention of those who said that:

639- Bishr ibn Mu'adh narrated to us, he said: Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, he said: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatada, he said: {I know what you do not know}, so it was in Allah's knowledge that there would be from that vicegerent prophets, messengers, righteous people, and inhabitants of Paradise (2).

And this report from Allah, Exalted be His Praise, informs that the angels who said: {Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood?} deemed it grave that Allah should have a creation that disobeys Him, and marvelled at it when informed that this would occur. Therefore, their Lord said to them: {I know what you do not know}. He means by that—and Allah knows best—: You indeed marvel at Allah's command and deem it grave, while I know that it is within some of you, and you describe yourselves with a description of which I know the opposite in some of you, and you hint at a matter I have assigned to others. That is because the angels, when their Lord informed them of what would occur from the offspring of His vicegerent of corruption and shedding blood, said to their Lord: O Lord, will You place upon the earth a vicegerent from other than us, from whose offspring will be those who disobey You, or from us, for we magnify You
