690 - And al-Qāsim narrated to us, he said: Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us, he said: Ḥajjāj narrated to me, from Ibn Jurayj, from Ṣāliḥ, the freedman of al-Tawʾama, and Sharīk ibn Abī Namir — one or both of them — from Ibn ʿAbbās, he said: "Indeed, among the angels is a tribe of jinn, and Iblīs was from among them, and he used to manage what is between heaven and earth." (1)

691 - And I was narrated from al-Ḥasan ibn al-Faraj, he said: I heard Abū Muʿādh al-Faḍl ibn Khālid say: ʿUbayd ibn Sulaymān informed us, he said: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Muzāḥim say regarding His statement: {So they prostrated, except Iblīs; he was of the jinn} [Sūrat al-Kahf: 50], he said: Ibn ʿAbbās used to say: "Indeed, Iblīs was among the most noble of the angels and from their most honorable tribe." Then he mentioned the like of the first narration of Ibn Jurayj identically. (2)

692 - And Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā narrated to us, he said: Shaybān narrated to me, he said: Salām ibn Miskīn narrated to us, from Qatāda, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, he said: "Iblīs was the chief of the angels of the lower heaven." (3)

693 - And Bishr ibn Muʿādh narrated to us, he said: Yazīd narrated to us, he said: Saʿīd narrated to us, from Qatāda, regarding His statement: {And when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblīs. He was of the jinn} [Sūrat al-Kahf: 50], he was from a tribe of the angels called "the Jinn,"
