My God created him and chose him over His servants, ... and gave him kingly power over what is between Thurayyā and Egypt. (1) And He subjected nine of the jinn of the angels to him, ... standing before him, working without wages.

He said: Thus the Arabs refused in their language anything other than that "al-jinn" is everything that conceals itself. He says: Allah did not name the jinn except because they concealed themselves and were not seen, and mankind was not named al-ins except because they appeared and did not conceal themselves. Whatever appeared is ins, and whatever concealed itself and was not seen is jinn. (2)

And others said what was narrated to us by:

696 - Muḥammad ibn Bashshār narrated it to us, he said: Ibn Abī ʿAdī narrated to us, from ʿAwf, from al-Ḥasan, he said: Iblīs was never among the angels for the blink of an eye, and indeed he is the origin of the jinn, just as Adam is the origin of mankind. (3)

697 - And Bishr ibn Muʿādh narrated to us, he said: Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ narrated to us, he said: Saʿīd narrated to us, from Qatāda, he said: Al-Ḥasan used to say regarding His statement: "Except Iblīs, he was of the jinn," He relegated him to his origin, (4) so Allah said: {Will you then take him and his offspring as allies besides Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched is the exchange for the wrongdoers} [Sūrat al-Kahf: 50], and they reproduce just as the children of Adam reproduce. (5)
