744 - I was narrated from ʿAmmār ibn al-Ḥasan, who said: Ibn Abī Jaʿfar narrated to us, on the authority of his father, on the authority of al-Rabīʿ, who said: A traditionist narrated to me: That Satan entered Paradise in the form of a beast with legs, so he was seen as though he were a camel. He said: So he was cursed, and his legs fell off, so he became a snake. (1)

745 - And I was narrated from ʿAmmār, who said: Ibn Abī Jaʿfar narrated to us, on the authority of his father, on the authority of al-Rabīʿ, who said: And Abū al-ʿĀliya narrated to me that among camels are those whose origins were from the Jinn. He said: Paradise was made permissible to him in its entirety except for the tree (2), and it was said to them: "Do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers." He said: So Satan came to Eve and started with her, saying: "Were you forbidden from anything?" She said: "Yes! From this tree." So he said: {Your Lord did not forbid you from this tree except lest you become angels or become of the immortal} [Sūrat al-Aʿrāf: 20]. He said: So Eve started and ate from it, then she ordered Adam and he ate from it. He said: And it was a tree such that whoever ate from it experienced ritual impurity. He said: And it is not fitting for there to be ritual impurity in Paradise. He said: "Then Satan caused them to slip from it, and removed them from that in which they were" (3). He said: So Adam was removed from Paradise (4).

746 - Ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us, saying: Salama narrated to us, saying: Ibn Isḥāq narrated to us, on the authority of some of the people of knowledge: That when Adam entered Paradise and saw the honor in it and what God had given him of it, he said: "If only there were immortality!" So Satan seized upon this from him when he heard it from him (5), and approached him from the angle of immortality. (6)
