He said: So that is His statement: "Then Adam received words from his Lord." (1)

776 - And ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to me, saying: Muslim narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab narrated to us, from Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ, from ʿĀṣim ibn Kulayb, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, something similar.

777 - And Muḥammad ibn Saʿd narrated to me, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: My uncle narrated to me, saying: My father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbās concerning His statement: "Then Adam received words from his Lord, and He turned to him in forgiveness": He said: Indeed, Adam said to his Lord when he disobeyed Him: "O Lord, if I repent and set things right, do You see?" So his Lord said to him: "Indeed, I shall return you to Paradise." (2)

778 - And Bishr ibn Muʿādh narrated to us, saying: Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ narrated to us, from Saʿīd, from Qatāda concerning His statement: "Then Adam received words from his Lord": It was mentioned to us that he said: "O Lord, if I repent and set things right, do You see?" He said: "Then I shall indeed return you to Paradise." He said: And al-Ḥasan said: They both said: "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we shall surely be among the losers." (3)

779 - And al-Muthannā narrated to me, saying: Ādam al-ʿAsqalānī narrated to us, saying: Abū Jaʿfar narrated to us, from al-Rabīʿ, from Abū al-ʿĀliya concerning His statement: "Then Adam received words from his Lord": He said: When Adam committed the sin, he said: "O Lord, if I repent and set things right, do You see?" So Allah said: "Then I shall return you to Paradise." So that was among the words. And among the words also was: "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we shall surely be among the losers." (4)

780 - And Mūsā ibn Hārūn narrated to me, saying: ʿAmr ibn Ḥammād narrated to us, saying: Asbāṭ narrated to us, from al-Suddī: "Then Adam received words from his Lord": He said: "Lord, did You not create me with Your hand?" It was said to him: "Yes." He said: "And You breathed into me of Your spirit?" It was said to him: "Yes." He said: "And did Your mercy precede
